Popped Tires Finally End High-Speed Chase in Contra Costa County: Watch

A driver led Contra Costa deputies across multiple cities on high-speed freeway pursuit.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A driver led deputies, the CHP, and a helicopter on a high-speed chase across multiple highways.

The chase began Wednesday when Contra County Sheriff's deputies tried to stop a pick-up truck in Bay Point. The driver refused to yield and drove instead west on Highway 4.

The driver then headed toward I-680, with a helicopter overhead, tracking the vehicle as it drove north in the southbound lanes of the freeway.

The California Highway Patrol finally stopped the driver by deploying spike strips near the Benicia Bridge, forcing the vehicle to a stop.

The driver fled on foot until deputies caught up and arrested him.
