Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- A mystery patient with distinctive tattoos at Oakland's Highland Hospital was identified in about 12 hours, thanks to the powers of social media. Tamika Rivera of Concord said Wednesday that the man who appeared at Highland on Feb. 7 is her father, Jose Ramos, 46 – a grandfather of 10. She had talked to her father two days before he showed up at the hospital but hadn't known where he was until she spotted his story on KTVU's Facebook page on Tuesday. She called the hospital and went to visit her father in the ICU. In a statement, Alameda Health System spokeswoman Eleanor Ajala said that the hospital was grateful to the public and the "power of social media.. to solve this case. We are grateful for the strong ties that bind our community and have reunited the family." (KTVU San Francisco)
- The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is accepting nominations for the 2022 Contra Costa County Youth Hall of Fame Awards, presented annually to outstanding county residents between the ages of 12 and 18. Nominees are judged based on "exemplary behavior" in one of five categories: Good Samaritan, Volunteerism, Teamwork, Leadership and civic engagement and Perseverance. Nominations must be received by March 4th. For more information and the application form to nominate a youth in our community, people can visit www.contracosta.ca.gov/DocumentCenter/View/74105. - On Wednesday, February 16, 2022, Oakley Police Chief Paul Beard issued a brief update on the search for the woman missing since January 26 and last seen by her ex-boyfriend in Antioch that night. Beard said that the disappearance of Alexis Gabe has remained at the forefront of the Oakley Police Departments daily operations. He added "The Oakley Police Department remains committed to locating Alexis and we are continuing on our path towards a complete investigation." Fliers about Gabe have been distributed and posted throughout East County, as well as posts on social media and ads have been placed on digital billboards along Highway 4 and I-680 to help in locating her. If you have any information, please contact Oakley PD at (925) 625-8060. (Contra Costa Herald)
- In an email sent out on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, State Senator Steve Glazer (D-Orinda), who represents the 7th District which includes most of Contra Costa County, said he's considering running for California State Controller and asked his supporters for their input. If elected Glazer would step down from his seat two years early, creating a vacancy that would be filled by a special election. When reached for comment, Glazer said he has to decide by March 11, which is the usual end of the candidate filing period. Constituents can let Glazer know what they think of his plans at steve@senatorglazer.com. (Contra Costa Herald)
