Good morning, Concord! Let's get you all caught up to start this Monday, October 25 off on an informed note. Here are the most important things going on in Concord today.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy with a few showers. High: 64 Low: 51.

Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord launched the Mt. Diablo Unified School District's first Femineer™ Program on October 20, 2021 thanks to a joint effort between Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) and global architecture, engineering, and design firm Stantec to empower the workforce of the future. Cal Poly Pomona's College of Engineering created and funded The Femineer™ Program starting in 2013 to inspire female students to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in their careers and education. 2. Pleasanton Heritage Association is honoring five downtown homes by presenting their owners with 2021 Historic Preservation Awards. Each year, five to six homes are chosen for the recognition from among the 93 that the city has designated as historic resources. The association has placed a sign in each of the yards for passersby to see, and bronze plaques are being made for the fronts of the homes, which is super cool, but I think the coolest part is that each of the homeowners gets an original rendering of the home by artist Gary Winter as well as one of his miniature wooden replicas. The annual event usually includes a recognition and celebration at Museum on Main but, due to COVID, it will not be held this year. (Pleasanton Weekly)
  3. On Tuesday, the Brentwood City Council will receive a presentation regarding firearm storage and could provide the Brentwood Police Department with direction on a future ordinance. The item was added after the city received a letter from Moms Demand Action. The Brentwood Police Department will compare and contrast what guidelines are being requested by Moms Demand Action versus current guidelines and what could be improved. (East County Today)
  4. The Brentwood Library, in collaboration with the Brentwood Union School District, will host 4th and 5th grade Zoom presentations by popular children's author Dan Gutman on October 28. Free copies of his books will be distributed at the Brentwood library to participating students while supplies last. (East County Today)
  5. Several power outages have been reported throughout Contra Costa County. To view the PG&E outage map, please click on the link. (Claycord.com)
