🌱Highway 4 Crash Claims Life + East County Sideshow Crackdown
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

Hello again, friends. It's Friday in Concord and I'm back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening locally. Let's do it.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny. High: 76 Low: 56.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- One person died in a fiery crash Wednesday on state Highway 4 near Pittsburg, the California Highway Patrol said. The CHP determined that a Hyundai Tucson SUV was traveling eastbound when the driver exited the freeway and collided with a guardrail on the offramp. "As a result of the collision, the vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed," the CHP said. The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. (Concord Patch)
- The Concord City Council will give Concord First Partners (CFP) an extension of its deadline to have a negotiated term sheet in place, but the council on Tuesday denied CFP requests to amend the agreement to give them early property rights and reimbursement of costs should the deal fall through. Councilmember Carlyn Obringer voted against the extension. She said she didn't have faith CFP wouldn't present more demands down the line, risking taxpayers' money. "There is a real trust issue. I hear it from my constituents every single day," Obringer said. CFP agreed to continue negotiations. (Patch)
- The Antioch Police Department in partnership with the Brentwood Police Department, Pittsburg Police Department, Oakley Police Department, and California Highway Patrol will conduct a joint traffic enforcement detail today to May 29. This is in response to reports that they have received regarding planned sideshow activity. The operation will focus on sideshow activity as well as reckless driving and emissions violations. (News 24/680)
- Three new "test to treat" locations opened last week in Antioch, Brentwood and Pleasant Hill. Patients at these facilities will be given a rapid antigen test and if they test positive, they will be connected via video with a doctor. If the doctor deems it appropriate, patients will be prescribed oral antiviral pills (Paxlovid or Molnupiravir). "These additional test to treat locations, most of which are in areas hardest hit by the pandemic, will provide a big boost to our efforts to eliminate preventable deaths from COVID in Contra Costa County," said Anna Roth, Contra Costa County health director. (East County Today)
- Moraga police gave chase, Tuesday, to a suspect in a reportedly stolen vehicle that had a false license plate according to a Moraga Police press release. The officers found the stolen vehicle abandoned on Pinehurst Road. According to the press release "Officers discovered packages in the car that had been stolen from six different residences; three in Moraga and three in Lafayette. The suspects also abandoned a three month old puppy in the vehicle, which is now in the custody of Animal Services." I can see abandoning a car and even stolen merchandise, but a puppy?? I have no sympathy for those perps. (News 24/680)
