- State Highway 4 was closed Thursday morning at the site of a fatal crash near Brentwood.
The collision involving an International big rig and a Toyota Corolla was reported at 5:48 a.m. Thursday on SR-4 east of Balfour Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP determined that the driver of a silver Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound and an International truck was traveling westbound when the Toyota driver crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the truck. The Toyota driver, who was in the car alone, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. (Concord Patch) - On April 6, at 9:19 p.m., Concord Police Dispatch received several calls of a man cutting his own neck with a sharp object at the gas station in the 5100 block of Clayton Road. Several officers responded to the scene. Officers blocked and rerouted traffic to provide for a safer environment to address the situation. An on-duty officer, who is a trained member of the Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT), arrived on scene and began speaking with this man in crisis, employing his de-escalation techniques. After about 15 minutes, the CNT Officer was able to convince the man to drop the sharp object. The man was taken into custody safely with no further injuries to himself and no injuries to officers. The victim sustained non-life threatening stab wounds to her hands as a result of the attack. The suspect remained inside the home and locked herself inside with a 2-year-old child. The Pleasant Hill Police CIT officer established rapport and negotiated the safe surrender of the suspect and the child. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The child was unharmed and was ultimately taken into the protective custody of the Solano County Child Family Services. (Claycord.com)
