The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

Rise and shine, Concord! Here's everything you need to know to get this Monday started off right.
First, today's weather:
Sun through high clouds. High: 57 Low: 45.
Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- Clayton residents can be good Samaritans by providing life-saving medical care for homeless and abandoned cats through the seventh annual Holiday Giving Tree fundraiser sponsored by Community Concern for Cats (CC4C), a local 35-year-old-cat rescue organization. All funds raised will support CC4C's cat hospital in Clayton, which performs spay/neuter surgery to help prevent cat overpopulation. It also gives kittens a healthy start to life and offers routine medical services and surgeries. (Pioneer Publishers)
- The Contra Costa Community College District (4CD) will hold a public hearing at the December 8, 2021, Governing Board meeting to seek community input on a staff proposal to adjust trustee area boundaries and ensure population balance. The proposed map keeps the wards gerrymandered with few changes to the 2011 map. The regular meeting begins at 6:00 p.m., and will include a review of the proposed ward map based on population changes unveiled in the 2020 Census. The community is invited to participate in this conversation by either attending the meeting in person at 500 Court Street, Second Floor Board Room, Martinez, or by joining the meeting via Zoom. (Antioch Herald)
- Grace Bible Fellowship of Antioch will host its first ever New Year's Eve Carnival this year. Purchase your $15 wristband in advance on Eventbrite. Wristbands will be $20 at the gate. (Antioch Herald)
- A night of North Indian classical music and South Indian dance will take place Dec. 11 at Piedmont Center for the Arts, 801 Magnolia Avenue, Piedmont, at 7 p.m. Dr. Michael Lewis, a 30-year Orinda resident, will play tabla, alongside his 45-year friend Steve Oda, an exceptionally talented sarode player and Pushpa Oda on tanpura. Kali Futnani, a Bharatanatyam dancer, will also perform. (The Orinda News)
- The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved recommended funding allocations for county fire departments. The funding will change the face of fire service across the county. The approvals pave the way for the long-planned annexation of East Contra Costa Fire into the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. Contra Costa Fire will add an additional apparatus and engine company to Fire Station 81 in Antioch. As a result, the total number of engine companies serving east county residents increases by 50%.
