Get on up, Concord! Here's everything you need to know to get this Saturday started off right.
First, today's weather:
Plenty of sun. High: 85 Low: 52.
Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- A 12-year-old girl walking home from school on Willow Pass Road was shot at and hit by a BB gun in Bay Point on Tuesday. There were two other, similar incidents later in the day. The same suspects seem to be involved in all of them. The suspects were in a newer-model silver Kia Optima sedan. Investigators asked anyone with information on the car or the suspects to contact the Sheriff's Office Investigation Division at 925-313-2667 or 925-313-2600, send an email to tips@so.cccounty.us, or call 866-846-3592 to leave an anonymous voice message. - The Bay Area Air Quality Management District on Wednesday announced a settlement with Shell Oil Products US, which has agreed to pay $433,000 to settle violations that occurred between 2017 and 2019 at its former refinery in Martinez. The money in the settlement will go toward further inspection and enforcement activities, according to the air district. (Claycord.com)
- Contra Costa County Public Works Department will clean up debris and replace pylon dividers to enhance safety on Vasco Road. The work will occur approximately 1 mile south of the Camino Diablo/Vasco Road intersection to the Alameda County Line, a length of approximately 7.5 miles, and will include a rolling lane closure. The work is scheduled for Monday, October 25, 2021 through Thursday, October 28, 2021. Drivers should expect delays. (East County Today)
- The Concord Police Department is highlighting the success of its Crisis Negotiation Team on World Mental Health Day. The CNT has a different perspective on situations where a mental health crisis may be taking place. It is trained to talk to the person, not react to the situation and provide the assistance that individuals in mental health crisis require. Corporal Shasta Vanetti, a member of Concord PD's CNT for the last two years reminds us that in most situations, people just want to feel like somebody cares about them. Understanding that is a lesson everyone can learn from. (Concord News Journal)
- With COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations declining, Contra Costa County will lift masking requirements on Nov. 1 in certain indoor settings where everyone is fully vaccinated. Spaces that will be eligible for mask removal are those that are not open to the public, such as offices and fitness centers. Participating businesses, organizations and hosts must verify that all patrons, employees and attendees are fully vaccinated before allowing people inside their facilities not to wear face coverings. Further, there can be no more than 100 people at any of the venues that allow mask removal and it must be a regular gathering. (Contra Costa Herald)
