Live Fire, Responder Training Planned At Buchanan Field

The airport would be a FEMA-designated, staging ground for catastrophes, officials said.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – Contra Costa County first responders will be at Buchanan Field Airport in Concord all next week for live fire training exercises including a plane fire simulation, county officials said.

Crews with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, the Sheriff's Office, the county's Office of Emergency Services, the airport and other mutual aid agencies will participate in the drills Monday through
Friday.

The drills will take place on the west side of the airport near Marsh Drive.

Buchanan Field would be a Federal Emergency Management Agency logistics staging ground for any major catastrophic events like earthquakes or fires in the region, and the cross-training exercises will help to prepare for a possible disaster, county officials said.
