Murder, Kidnapping, Child-Abuse Charges In May 5 Attack

Prosecutors charge a man after a violent May 5 attack that killed one resident, wounded multiple people, and ended with a kidnapping.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — In a sweeping felony case now moving through Contra Costa County Superior Court, prosecutors charged a man in an attack and suspected kidnapping that left one man dead and multiple victims injured.

Prosecutors in Contra Costa County allege Jaquan Tarrell Jones, 38, opened fire inside a residential neighborhood, killing one person and injuring two others.

The three were inside a home on the 5200 block of Percheron Way in Antioch. The victims include Cordai Mustafi, 44, Dejon Anderson, 23, and Shontella Anderson, 46, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office.

After the shooting, prosecutors allege Jones left that location and entered a home on the 5500 block of Dawnview Court, where he is alleged to have kidnapped a 65-year-old woman who was caring for a child.

Investigators allege Jones moved through the two Antioch addresses in rapid succession before authorities arrested him.
