Man From Nearby Antioch Sentenced For Meth Trafficking

An Antioch man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison stemming from a 2016 drug trafficking case.

EAST BAY, CA -- An Antioch man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison stemming from a 2016 drug case, United States Attorney Brian Stretch announced Friday.

Ricky Barnette, 34, was sentenced to 100 months in prison after he pleaded guilty in November to one count of possession with intent to sell methamphetamine, prosecutors said.

Barnette admitted he was driving a stolen BMW on Jan. 8, 2016 in Antioch while in possession of more than 167 grams of methamphetamine for sale, prosecutors said.

He was also in possession of a stolen and loaded Ruger LC9 pistol.

Officers with the Antioch Police Department attempted to pull Barnette over, but he drove the wrong way onto the off-ramp of state Highway 4 and eventually crashed head-on with another vehicle on the highway,
injuring the driver of the other vehicle, prosecutors said.

In addition to his prison term, Barnette will serve a five-year period of supervised release, was ordered to forfeit the firearm and was ordered to forfeit $1,760 that he admitted was proceeds from drug trafficking.
