Here are the top five stories today in Concord:
- Two children were severely hurt while playing with fireworks over the weekend in Brentwood, firefighters said. They were reportedly playing in a church parking lot when the fireworks ignited by accident, KNTV reported. Firefighters with the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District were called to Birch Street in Brentwood around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. One child suffered critical injuries and was airlifted by medical helicopter. The other child suffered moderate injuries and was taken by family to a hospital. KTVU reported the child who was critically hurt was a 10-year-old boy, who was taken to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland. He suffered injuries to his face, chest and hands. (Concord Patch)
- Lafayette dining institution, El Charro has been given a fresh life in Walnut Creek. When Benjamin Seabury learned that El Charro would be shutting its doors in Lafayette, he decided to partner with Jon Guhl's 1100 Group — which operates several local eateries, most notably the Little Star and Star pizzerias — to purchase the El Charro name and recipes with the idea of preserving an East Bay dining institution for future generations. While the original location would have been too costly to upgrade, the old Maria Maria restaurant location in Walnut Creek worked nicely. And, while he did work diligently to preserve the "nostalgic" Mexican-American fare, he did some upgrading and modernizing, as well. If you're looking for the "El Charro butter" to go with your chips, you'll still find it here! It will now set you back $4, but isn't that worth it for that delicious trip down memory lane? (Diablo Magazine)

You'll find everything from Arbor Day tree planting to A Treasury of 10-Minute Plays from Ghostlight Theatre Ensemble. So, head out the door this beautiful Spring and find some new adventures to enjoy! (Pioneer Publishers)
- Concord Police arrested one person after finding a loaded handgun and drugs during a traffic stop on Kirker Pass Road near Clayton Road this week. The driver of the vehicle was also unlicensed, and the registration on the vehicle expired over two years ago, police said. The suspect was arrested on several charges and transported to the county jail. (Claycord.com)
- A pair of thieves raided the Mike's Camera store at 2170 Contra Costa Boulevard in Pleasant Hill on Monday, breaking into store counters and making off with an undetermined amount of goods. The suspects were last seen driving away from the area in an older model Ford Focus. There were no known injuries. (News 24/680)
