Model Rocket Sparks Fire In Concord

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District investigators are asking for the public's help in determining who started it.

CONCORD, CA – A model rocket caused a grass fire Monday evening in Concord, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

Investigators determined the grass fire reported at 5:12 p.m. off Barkwood Court, near the location of June's three-alarm Ygnacio Valley Road wildfire, was caused by a model rocket, the agency said.

The public's help is sought in finding out who started the blaze, and anyone with information on the incident can call investigators at 1-866-50-ARSON.

"Except for a quick and overwhelming response, this fire could have turned out very differently," officials said. "Fire season is no more over here in Contra Costa County than it is in Butte and Ventura counties. PLEASE, use extreme caution in all outdoor activities and report any fires immediately to 911."
