Welcome back, Concord! Here's everything you need to know to get this Tuesday started off right.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny. High: 61 Low: 47.
Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- Today, Mount Diablo's Beacon will be re-lit by survivors of Pearl Harbor. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Beacon's light was extinguished during the West Coast Blackout, for fear it may enable an attack on California. It stayed dark until Pearl Harbor Day 1964, when Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, Commander-in-Chief of Pacific Forces during World War II, relit the Beacon in a commemorative ceremony and suggested it be illuminated every December 7th to honor those who served and sacrificed. - A plan to build 63 units on the property currently occupied by Golden Skate goes before the San Ramon Planning Commission today. The Windflower Fields project would occupy 3.57 acres of hillside property at 2701 Hooper Drive. The plan consists of eight buildings and a small .25-acre park for residents' use. The San Ramon Planning Commission meets virtually at 7 p.m. (Claycord.com)
- Police in the San Ramon Valley responded to a reported catalytic converter theft on Corrinne Court in San Ramon on Sunday. The incident, reported at approximately 2:55 p.m. is still under active investigation as police search for an older model Ford Taurus believed to have been used in the attempted theft. A similar theft at a home on Winthrop Avenue was also reported. (News 24/680)
- In a recently released survey of pavement conditions throughout the Bay Area, the Tri-Valley cities of Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore and San Ramon and the town of Danville collectively earned high marks compared to some other parts of the region, with Dublin earning the highest score locally. In the 2020 rankings, Dublin came in second for pavement condition among Bay Area cities, with a PCI score of 84 out of a possible 100 points in the survey, narrowly edged out of first place by Cupertino, which had a score of 85. - A correctional officer from Pleasanton faces a felony count of sexual abuse of a prisoner at the Federal Correctional Institute Dublin, becoming the latest official charged with sex crimes against inmates at the all-female prison. Federal prosecutors alleged FCI Dublin safety administrator John Russell Bellhouse engaged in sexual acts with an inmate even though he knew sexual, financial or social relationships with inmates in his ward were prohibited. Bellhouse, 39, made his first court appearance on Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. It is not immediately clear whether he is represented by an attorney.
