Mostly sunny and pleasant. High: 73 Low: 55.
Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- If you're jonesin' for a burger, you'll have to find someplace to go besides In-N-Out. According to county officials, In-N-Out Burgers in Pleasant Hill was shut down by Contra Costa County health officials over the restaurant's lack of enforcement of COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. Contra Costa Environmental Health confirmed to Patch that it suspended the commercial food permit of In-N-Out Burger for "creating a public health hazard by repeatedly violating a county health order intended to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission." In-N-Out says it refuses to be the "vaccine police" and has accepted the shutdown. (Concord Patch)
- The Concord City Council unanimously decided early Wednesday morning to begin negotiations with Concord First Partners, a group of companies including Seeno Companies and its housing arm Discovery Builders Inc., to develop the former Concord Naval Weapons Station. Founded in 1938, Seeno has a history of running afoul of environmental laws, having been fined millions of dollars over the years for destroying wildlife habitat while developing projects in East Contra Costa County. Guy Bjerke, the city's economic development and base reuse director, said the city did its due diligence, but the project's massive size limited how many companies could realistically be considered. - Last Saturday was "prescription drug take-back day" and boy did Contra Costa County respond! The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office collected a total of 513 pounds of dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. (Claycord.com)
- Check out all of the Halloween fun happening at east bay parks this season! There will be a spooky scavenger hunt at Del Valle Regional Park. At Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont, naturalist Mindy Castle will lead three Halloween-themed programs and a "beautiful brunches" hike will take place at Morgan Territory Regional Preserve. - Danville police officer Andrew Albert Hall has been found guilty of assault with a firearm in the fatal shooting of Laudemer Arboleda in Danville in 2018. A mistrial was declared in the manslaughter case against the officer. A jury was unable to come to a unanimous verdict in the manslaughter case. "Today's guilty verdict holds accountable defendant Andrew Hall for his excessive use of force in the fatal shooting of Laudemer Arboleda," wrote County District Attorney Diana Becton in a prepared release. "With regards to the voluntary manslaughter count, we will take the matter under review to determine the appropriate next steps," she said. (News 24/680)
