Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Clayton Mayor Jeff Wan is attempting to clarify the actions of the Clayton City Council in terminating the Master Use Agreement With Clayton Business Community Association. He says that terminating the agreement does not mean the CBCA can't have events in downtown Clayton. He says it just means the association has no specific cost agreement with the city, and therefore will default to the terms of the Citywide Master Fee Schedule. He also clarified that the current notice of termination was extended to accommodate the Art and Wine festival, which was already in flight. (Claycord.com)
  2. Some pretty dramatic pictures emerged of a car that took up residence inside a Concord homeowner's living room. DUI is suspected in the crash. Fortunately, neither the homeowner nor the driver was injured. (Claycord.com)
  3. After nearly 100 years, hikers will again get to experience the 1.25 mile Mt. Diablo trail that "travels from Balancing Rock and Knobcone Point, to Cave Point, to Windy Point and Riggs Canyon." On March 29, the trail will officially open to the public. (Pioneer Publishers)
  4. William and Emmanuel Hleza, both 20, of Pittsburg, were arrested after an attempted carjacking and kidnapping on N. Main Street in Walnut Creek, according to Walnut Creek police. The incident happened just before 6:00 pm. A good samaritan intervened and the would-be carjackers fled. Police found them hiding nearby and took them into custody. "Both were arrested for attempted carjacking, kidnapping, and conspiracy and were transported to the county jail in Martinez on $350,000 bail each." (News 24/680)
  5. Mike McCarron, Contra Costa County Historical Society executive director, stepped down from his post on Friday. The Historical Society is now looking for a part-time executive director. The position pays $28K-$32K depending on experience, and includes some benefits. (Contra Costa News)
