Pedestrian Fatally Struck On Freeway On-Ramp Near Concord: CHP

The fatal crash happened at the Grant Street onramp to state Highway 242.

CONCORD, CA — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car early Friday morning on a freeway onramp near Concord.

The California Highway Patrol was notified around 4 a.m. Friday about the incident on the Grant Street onramp to northbound state Highway 242.

A pedestrian was walking within the roadway of the onramp when a Honda Civic approached; the driver of the Honda was unable to avoid the pedestrian and struck them, the CHP said.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel, then rushed to a hospital where they later died, the CHP said.

The driver of the Honda was not injured.

The CHP was still investigating the crash and asked anyone who witnessed it or the events leading up to it to call the Contra Costa CHP office in Martinez at 925-646-4980.
