Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Have you heard of GoMentum Station? It's a groundbreaking vehicle testing facility in Concord. The facility features "more than 20 miles of paved roadway; two 1400-foot tunnels; curbs, gutters, and sidewalks; railroad crossings; potholes; smart signal lab; and a mini-city that can support multimodal testing. Founded by the Contra Costa Transportation Authority and managed by AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah (AAA NCNU), this unique test bed provides an opportunity for test partners to push their technology to its limits while testing within a controlled environment." And it's capturing the attention of some of the highest-level dignitaries in the transportation arena, including U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who toured the facilities earlier this month. (American Journal of Transportation)
  2. Here's a fun fact: This year California voters will determine fewer issues than in any election since 1916! This may be true, but the ones we are deciding are no less important because there are fewer of them, so it pays to educate ourselves on what these issues could mean if approved or denied. In fact, since there are fewer of them, we can all educate ourselves even more on the ones that are on the ballot. Pioneer Publishers wants to help, with summaries in plain English and links for further reading. (Pioneer Publishers)
  3. Now that you are clear on all of the California ballot measures, what about the candidates for office? You can read about the candidates for all of the local positions and what their position statements are. The Pioneer also has links to resources like a guide to the Bill of Rights and forms and processes candidates must follow. Now you have no excuse not to mail in your ballot or get yourself to the polls in November and vote! (Pioneer Publishers)
  4. The Antioch City Council will discuss "traffic calming" as part of their agenda today. It is not clear from the agenda exactly what "traffic calming" refers to and there is no backup documentation available for the discussion. Mayor Lamar Thorpe put the topic on the agenda after three 12-year-olds were hit by a vehicle that had just been t-boned by another vehicle as the children were walking home from school last week. The mayor announced in a video that he was asking the council to bring forward areas of the city that need traffic calming. In the video, he said, in part, "We don't have time to wait for a program that studies, and studies and studies. We just need to get the job done for the people of Antioch." (East County Today)
