Happy Friday, people of Concord! Let's get this day started. Here's what's happening today in town.
First, today's weather:
More clouds than sun. High: 66 Low: 53.
Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- Lawyers delivered opening arguments Tuesday as the Ross Farca trial got underway. The 25-year-old from Concord stands accused of five felonies and one misdemeanor. Three of the charges stem from online posts and an ensuing police search of Farca's home that allegedly turned up a home-assembled AR-15-style rifle illegal under California's assault weapons ban. Three more felonies were added later, after an incident on Oct. 8, 2020, during a probation search when police say Farca yelled "Sieg Heil" and hurled a threat to murder a detective who was on the scene. The Farca case has disturbed members of the Bay Area Jewish community. In online posts he showed a fascination with Nazism, but so far he has not been charged with any hate crimes. - The Concord Police Department will roll out a police traffic services program to deter dangerous and illegal driving behaviors that increase the risk of crashes in the community thanks to a $150,000 grant from the Office of Traffic Safety. "This funding allows us to provide necessary traffic enforcement measures with the goal of reducing serious injury and fatal crashes on our roads," said Concord Police Department's Lt. Mark Robison. - The city of Pleasant Hill invites the community to come to City Hall on November 14, 2021, to celebrate the city's Diamond (60th) Anniversary by Lighting Up the Lake. There will be hundreds of luminaries covering the lake, twinkling like diamonds in the night. The event will run from 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at 100 Gregory Lane. At 5:30 p.m., Mayor Sue Noack will present a proclamation of the city's anniversary. The public will then be invited to launch luminaries out onto the lake. Luminary numbers are limited and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. (Pioneer Publishers)
- Air and ground units were searching for a man Wednesday who allegedly battered a woman in their car near the Lafayette BART station, leaving the area before police arrived. The incident was reported shortly after 6 p.m. and police have reportedly made contact with the female victim. A sheriff's office helicopter, BART police and other Lamorinda police aided in the search. (News 24/680)
