- Congressman Mark DeSaulnier announced that Seth Raphael of Walnut Creek is the winner of the 2021 Congressional App Challenge for California's 11th Congressional District. Raphael is a student at Las Lomas High School and designed LinkJoin, a virtual meeting management app that helps users stay organized by listing their virtual meetings in one convenient place, automatically opening meetings, and sending reminder alerts to users. Second place was awarded to Jason Chan from San Ramon Valley High School for his app Swype Words, which assists in typing efficiency, and third place was awarded to Adhyayan Singh from Diablo Vista Middle School for his app SmartHomework Planner, which helps students calculate and track their grades. - Pleasant Hill Police have created an anonymous tip line to report information regarding missing juvenile Brandon Abbett. Brandon hasn't been seen or heard from since Jan. 17, 2022. - At an upcoming Mt. Diablo Unified School District board Zoom meeting the local district will make official the changing of the Ygnacio Valley High School mascot and nickname from Warriors to Wolves, following a vote last term to select a new name by the Concord school's students. New principal Jonathan Pike says the rebranding to Wolves will take time as signage, team uniforms and virtually everything else on the school's campus is now inscribed Warriors. Students and the principal will make a formal presentation to the district board on the Zoom call. (Pioneer Publishers)
- One person sustained minor injuries when the car they were in left Moraga Road and hit a power pole between Moraga and Lafayette. Crews responding to the 700 block of Moraga Road located a car off the road with live power lines down across the road. Power was knocked out to several PG&E customers. (News 24/680)
- The Oakley Police Department received a call of a missing person, under suspicious circumstances, on January 27, 2022. The missing person is identified as Alexis Gabe, 24, of Oakley. She was last seen on Benttree Way in Antioch. The Oakley Police Department has been in contact with Gabe's family and have spoken to key people who were last known to be with her. Posters of Gabe have been posted throughout East County over the past two days. Please report any credible sightings of Gabe, or any information that will lead to her discovery by calling the Oakley Police Department at 925-625-8060. (Contra Costa Times)

- East County residents interested in running for office this year will have the opportunity to learn from County Elections staff, Fair Political Practices Commission, local elected officials and campaign professionals during a Campaign School Wednesday night, Feb. 2. at Antioch Community Center at Prewett Family Park.
- The Castle Rock formation overlooking Pine Creek at Diablo Foothills Regional Park in Walnut Creek is now closed access to all to protect nesting peregrine falcons. The rocks are closed annually through July 31 so the falcons can mate, lay eggs and fledge their young undisturbed. (Pioneer Publishers) And, if you're into these raptors, I can tell you from experience that a hawk walk at West Coast Falconry is the coolest thing EVER! You'll get to cast and catch an actual hawk. It's a bit of a drive, but worth it.
