Willow Pass Road, Hwy 242 Reopen In Concord; Police Activity Resolved
The Concord Police Department assisted the California Highway Patrol with an incident that shut down Highway 242 and Willow Pass Road.

CONCORD, CA — Concord police advised the public to avoid Willow Pass Road at the Highway 242 overpass Wednesday morning because of police activity.
The Concord Police Department said it was assisting the California Highway Patrol with an active incident at 7:37 a.m. Wednesday.
A man suffering a mental health crisis was on the freeway overpass since around 7 a.m. Wednesday, CHP Officer Adam Lane told Patch.

The man was apparently positioning himself to jump into freeway traffic below the overpass.
"Willow Pass Rd is closed in both directions between Market St and Diamond Blvd," police said. "CHP also has northbound 242 closed. Please avoid the area."

The incident was ongoing as of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
"We are currently negotiating with him," Lane said at the time.
About 40 minutes later, the situation was resolved and the person was taken for a mental health evaluation.
All affected roadways were reopened by 11:10 a.m., according to Concord police.
