Porch Pirate Purloins Packages + Bike Rodeo + Politics & Plagues

Tune into what's happening in Concord with Patch's daily newsletter.

(Patch Media)

Get on up, Concord! Let's get this Wednesday started off right. Here's everything happening today in Concord.

First, today's weather:

Rather cloudy and cool. High: 74 Low: 53.

Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. The East Bay Municipal Utilities District (EBMUD) is turning to the Sacramento River to fulfill the demand for water during the drought. The utility usually draws its water from the Mokelumne River. Because the supplemental water is coming from a different watershed than the typical supply, customers may notice a change in their water's characteristics, EBMUD officials said. Back in April, the agency asked customers to voluntarily cutback water usage by ten percent due to the drought. Since July, EBMUD customers have conserved almost 8 percent less compared to the same time last year, EBMUD officials said. (Claycord.com)
  2. There's a tattooed porch pirate on the loose in Concord, and she's brazen. She steals packages in the broad daylight and even smiles for the camera. One Concord resident caught her stealing a package from her porch on her Ring camera and the woman looked directly into the camera as she was purloining the package. Concord police say both the holiday season as well as the introduction of the new iPhone are likely to blame for an increase in porch thefts in Concord neighborhoods. Police said Ring camera footage has been helpful to crack cases but advises communities to work together to avoid packages from being stolen. Keep an eye out for slow driving cars and if possible, have the packages delivered to a neighbor that is home or possibly your workplace. (Concord News Journal)
  3. The women's golf team at Benicia High School fell to Pleasant Hill's College Park 267-299 at the Contra Costa Golf Club on Monday. The medalist was College Park's Face Espinoza. (California News Times)
  4. The Concord Police Department invites the community to its inaugural bike rodeo.
Professional BMX flatland rider Peter Brandt will be on hand for the event. Event happenings will include helmet fitting, free bike repair and a raffle. The bike rodeo starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Meadow Homes Park, 1351 Detroit Ave. in Concord. (Concord Patch)
  5. The Concord Pavilion is one of Live Nation's venues and, as such, will require proof of vaccine or negative COVID test for entry. In order to be considered fully vaccinated, fans need to have their last dose at least two weeks prior to the event date. Eventgoers who are 12 and under or who have health conditions will need to show proof of a negative test for entry. (KCRA3 Sacramento)
