🌱 Red Caboose Destroyed By Fire + Richmond Refinery Strike

Here are the top five stories in Concord today:

  1. A fatal crash involving a wrong way driver closed I-80 at Cummings Skyway on Sunday. The crash occurred at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday and caused the freeway to be shut down for four hours. (Bay City News)
  2. Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) announced the introduction the Safe Landings Act (H.R. 6976) to increase aviation safety and avoid near-miss aircraft incidents. By creating a new federal task force to research and identify safety risks, expanding training, and addressing new technology needs, this bill would help reduce human error in aviation and save lives.   3. An early morning fire has destroyed The Red Caboose Restaurant in the City of Antioch. The fire broke out at approximately 3:40 am Monday at 210 Fulton Shipyard with the fire starting as an exterior fire before making its way up the wall and into the attic. The fire is under investigation by Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. (East County Today)
  4. On Sunday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to the 3100 block of Buchanan in the City of Antioch for a report of a person stuck in a pipe. According to preliminary information, a male was trapped in a storm drain approximately 15 feet underground. The male was responsive and communicating with rescue personnel. According to CONFIRE, the male had crawled into the storm drain system. The man told them he had been underground for 2 days. He was not injured but was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. (East County Today)
  5. More than 500 workers at Chevron's Richmond refinery walked off the job at 12:01 a.m. Monday after members of United Steelworkers (USW) Local 5 voted down Chevron's most recent contract proposal. Industry experts say the refinery provides about 13 percent of California's production capacity. The previous contract between the union and Chevron expired Feb. 1, and members have been working on a rolling 24-hour extension. (News 24/680)
