Road Rage Escalates To Shooting; Multiple Shots Fired: Concord PD
"When the victim attempted to confront the suspect, the suspect exited his vehicle with a handgun and shot at the victim several times."
CONCORD, CA — Road rage appeared to be what led to a shooting Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of Oak Grove Road and Monument Boulevard, officials with the Concord Police Department said. Dispatchers were alerted to the shooting by a caller frantically yelling, "Help, I'm being shot at!"
The caller told dispatchers the suspect was a man and was wearing a blue shirt.
"Sometimes that is all we're told when being dispatched to calls," Concord police Cpl. Beth Long said in a news release. "We respond to the unknown without hesitation because that is what we’ve sworn to do. This is exactly what happened yesterday [Tuesday] around 2:30 p.m."

Long said an officer was at the scene within two minutes and found the suspect — later identified by police as Gustavo Rizo Macias, 29, of Concord — in the 2200 block of Monument Boulevard.
Macias was detained in handcuffs, and with backup officers at the scene, police conducted a preliminary investigation that revealed Macias and the victim were involved in a minor collision, Long said.

"When the victim attempted to confront the suspect, the suspect exited his vehicle with a handgun and shot at the victim several times," Long said. "The victim quickly reversed out of the lot but the suspect continued to run toward him and fired several more rounds."
"Hearing all of the police sirens, [Gustavo] knew there was nowhere to hide so he complied with the officer’s commands (but not before trying to discard the firearm in his possession)," Long said.
In addition to the loaded gun Gustavo is accused of trying to ditch, officers also found a gun magazine with ammunition in a pocket of Gustavo's pants, Long said.
Officers also found shell casings that matched the ammunition Macias was found with, the corporal said.
"Fortunately, neither the victim nor innocent bystanders were injured by the suspect’s wanton disregard for human life," Long said.
Macias was arrested on suspicion of two felony counts: assault with a deadly weapon- firearm, and misdemeanor hit-and-run, Concord police Cpl. David Petty told Patch on Thursday.
As of Thursday, Macias remained behind bars at the Contra Costa County jail in Martinez. His bail was set at $300,000 pending a court appearance, according to jail records.
