🌱SF MUNI Shooter Arrested in Pittsburg + Local Athletes of the Year

Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. Seventy-five firefighters battled a rapidly spreading two-alarm grass fire from the ground and from the air Friday afternoon on Kirker Pass Road. The Kirker Fire broke out around 12:15 p.m. in the vicinity of Kirker Pass and Hess roads in Clayton. Shortly before 3 p.m., Con Fire said forward progress was stopped on the wildfire that burned 105 acres. Fire investigators determined a malfunctioning vehicle caused the blaze. No structures were threatened, according to Con Fire. (Concord Patch)
  2. Javon Green, 26, was taken into custody in the 1000 block of Power Avenue in Pittsburg in connection with a shooting incident on a MUNI train in San Francisco. The shooting was reported about 9:56 a.m. Wednesday at the Forest Hill station. One man was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. A 27-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The San Francisco Police Department requests that anyone with information regarding the shooting call the police tip line at 1-415-575-4444 or text TIP411 to begin a text message with the police. People who come forward may remain anonymous.   3. One man is dead and another critically injured as the car they were in collided with a power pole while trying to outrun police. Dozens of Lamorinda residents were reportedly without power following the incident. (News 24/680)
  4. According to this article in the Antioch Herald, "analysis of data available by County Health Rankings compared each [California] county's rate of obesity in 2012 to newly releases figures in 2022. The study found that of California's 58 counties, just one has trended towards decreased levels of obesity." Congratulations, Contra Costa County! You are the only one that has slimmed down over the last 10 years. The rest are up or have remained the same. I bet it's all those farmer's markets and summer fun! (Antioch Herald)
  5. Local high schools have revealed their athletes of the year for the 2021/22 school year. Congratulations to Talana Lepolo of Carondelet High, Jordan Woolery and Leighton Helfrick of Clayton Valley, Grace Geisler and Alex Hockenbery of Concord High, Zeke Berry of De La Salle, Jaley Croy and Aidan Sunbury of Northgate and Lauren Dang and Kevin Carranza of Ygnacio Valley!   • The city of Antioch is hosting a community bike ride! Bring your bicycle and helmet to join them for this fun family-friendly event. This event includes two courses with a three-mile bike ride or a six-mile bike ride! The Community Bike Ride starts at Antioch Water Park and circles back to the Water Park. (9 a.m.)

  • CPD K9 Max and CPD K9 Rita were dispatched to the city of Richmond for an armed carjacking/foot bail that had just occurred. Seeing K9 Max, the suspect quickly began moving away from the K9 officer to the other side of the yard, where he met K9 Rita. After seeing both CPD K9s, the suspect safely surrendered.
