Shooting Reported On Hwy 242 In Concord; Mercedes Driver Sought: CHP

Breaking: California Highway Patrol Contra Costa Area says the rear window of a Toyota Prius was shattered in the suspected shooting.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA -- The California Highway Patrol is seeking the driver of a white Mercedes Benz CLA 250 in connection with a suspected shooting reported Saturday night on state Highway 242 in Concord.

Officials with the CHP Contra Costa Area said a man driving a gray Toyota Prius called to report the incident at 9:13 p.m. Saturday. CHP officers responded to a Chevron gas station at Willow Pass Road off of state Highway 4, where they spoke to the victim and confirmed that a single bullet had been shot through the right rear window of his Prius, CHP officials said.

The victim, who was not injured, told CHP investigators that prior to the suspected shooting, a white Mercedes Benz CLA 250 had come up behind him at a high rate of speed on northbound Interstate Highway 680. The Mercedes was driving in and out traffic, and as it passed him, he decided to call 911, the Prius driver told CHP investigators.

The Prius driver said that as he and the Mercedes continued northbound onto state Highway 242, the Mercedes came to an abrupt stop on the right shoulder, just south of Clayton Road. CHP says the Prius driver was slowing down in order to get a good description of the Mercedes when he heard a single shot and noticed his right rear window was shattered.

The Prius driver did not recall seeing a gun, CHP said.

The victim said the Mercedes had paper plates and that no one other than the driver was riding in it, according to CHP.
