Six Flags' Amusement, Water Parks Announces Plans To Re-Open

The plans to reopen to the public includes plans this spring at Hurricane Harbor in Concord and at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo.

CONCORD, CA – Hurricane Harbor, a Six Flags water park, is part of the collection of amusement parks that is slated to open later this year after the company announced plans to re-open to customers after being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Six Flags announced its reopening plan late last week as part of its 60th anniversary and said it is prepared to do so while keeping safety at the forefront.

“Last year, we set the standard for operating our parks safely, and entertained millions of guests in adherence to government, and CDC health guidelines at 21 of our 26 parks,” Bonnie Weber, senior vice president of park operations said in a news release. “We offered a local and outdoor entertainment venue spanning dozens to hundreds of acres where families and friends could safely spend time together.

"We kept our guests and team members safe by requiring masks to be worn in the parks, providing contactless temperature and security screenings, enhancing our cleaning and sanitization measures, and closely monitoring attendance throughout operating hours in order to maintain proper social distancing.”

Park re-opening dates will be based on state, local and federal guidelines related to the pandemic, Six Flags officials said. On its website, Six Flags said that Hurricane Harbor Concord is planning to reopen in accordance with the California Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

Officials said the water park is looking forward to bringing back its popular Summer Night Slides event with music and special food options on select days this summer.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo is currently open weekends from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. In April, the park will celebrate Spring Break with new activities, according to the Six Flags website, but officials have not announced when the park will re-open on a daily basis.

The park is preparing to transition to full operation roller coasters, rides and attractions in accordance with the California Blueprint for a Safer Economy, officials said.
