Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. Early childhood programs and county libraries were the biggest beneficiaries of the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday which allocated an additional $15.56 million in Measure X funds. Measure X is a half-cent sales tax approved by Contra Costa voters in 2020. New one-time funding includes $4 million to county library building improvements and $3.75 million to deferred maintenance in county buildings and another $1 million toward refugee resettlement efforts. Another $50,000 will go toward the launch of a county library foundation. (Claycord.com)
  2. I'm not sure what a silver Pontiac has against this Safeway store in Clayton, but this is the second time this week that both entrances to Safeway on Clayton Road at Kirker Pass in Clayton were struck by a silver Pontiac. Tuesday's crash destroyed three doors. Last Saturday, two front railings were also destroyed. (Claycord.com)
  3. Contra Costa County has announced a first-of-its-kind "Pride Prom" taking place at Concord High School on April 23 at 8 p.m. for juniors and seniors attending select high schools within the county. Plus-ones can be from another school, but must be between 16 and 19 years of age. Tickets are $40. More information about the event can be found on the PFLAG Claycord website. (ABC7)
  4. At 7:56 pm Tuesday, the Pittsburg Police Department responded to a report of shots fired on W Leland Road near Crestview Drive in the City of Pittsburg. It was reported that two victims were shot with both in critical condition. As of 8:22 pm, Pittsburg Police reported they were still hearing gunshots in the area. During the initial portions of the investigation, officers determined that several family members gathered at the house following the death of an elderly family member. During the event, several men started arguing. At some point, several shots were fired. One man at the house was placed under arrest by officers. (East County Today)
  5. During its Tuesday meeting the Antioch City Council approved another marijuana business with a a 4-1 vote. This one is growing, manufacturing, selling and delivering cannabis supplements. The council then, on a 3-2 vote, approved a ban on the sale of certain tobacco products in the city. Local retailers and an industry representative spoke against the tobacco ban encouraging the council instead to wait for a vote on a statewide measure planned for the November ballot, so that there would be a level playing field should it pass.
