Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. The National Weather Service has revised its rainfall forecast for the storm expected to last through the holiday weekend. The new forecast calls for 2-3 inches of rain for the inland areas of the East Bay. This is an increase of 1-1.5 inches over what had been forecast. (Claycord.com)
  2. Contra Costa Health Services announced, Monday, that genomic sequencing of positive COVID-19 test results from the county has identified three cases with the Omicron variant of the virus. None of the three people in Contra Costa infected with Omicron had gotten a booster shot, although two were fully vaccinated. So far, no one has been hospitalized. (Contra Costa Herald)
  3. A release issued by Walnut Creek police following the sideshow takeover of a downtown intersection early Saturday morning detailed the police response to the incident, which they say included the issuance of citations and the impoundment of one car in which officers allegedly found an unlicensed male juvenile at the wheel and his mother riding as a passenger. Police stressed that there were no injuries or traffic collisions reported from the sideshow and said that a follow up investigation had identified another involved driver. The investigation led to that driver's vehicle being impounded, as well. (News 24/680)
  4. The line into the Antioch High School gymnasium was long, Friday afternoon, as local families queued up on a chilly day for the annual Warm for the Holidays event, a joint effort of Kaiser Permanente, the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, the high school, and other community organizations. The school district invited K-12 students, along with their families to "shop" for food, clothing, books and toys. More than 2,000 pounds of food was distributed to families in the community. (Antioch Herald)
  5. The Dublin City Council is set to officially approve Trumark Homes' East Ranch housing development. The development will consist of 573 units on a 165.5-acre site, totaling six neighborhoods and two parks. The project will straddle existing Croak Road with Jordan Ranch to the west, the Positano development to the north, and undeveloped land to the east and south, with Interstate 580 just beyond. The property is undeveloped and located within the Fallon Village area of the Eastern Dublin Specific Plan. (Pleasanton Weekly)
