Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. Above normal temperatures will return to the Bay Area this coming week. Temperatures are expected to be normal Monday and Tuesday and then likely above normal Wednesday through Friday. Temperatures on Thursday are expected to be five to 10 degrees above normal at the coast and 10 to 20 degrees above normal in interior locations. April 5-10, 1989, was the last time a similar spike came into the Bay Area. (Claycord.com)
  2. The California State Parent Teacher Association recently named students of various grades at San Ramon Valley Unified School District schools as honorees in their annual arts recognition program. Students from Coyote Creek, Creekside, Montevideo and Twin Creeks elementary schools, as well as Iron Horse and Windemere Ranch middle schools, and California and Monte Vista high schools were among the awardees. The SRVUSD students are now set to compete in the Reflections Program at the national level. "We are incredibly proud of our students," said SRVUSD Superintendent John Malloy, noting that SRVUSD has the highest number of students representing the state in the national awards this year. 3. The Martinez Police Department is seeking assistance in identifying this person (picture at the link), who was seen late at night on April 2 at the Walgreens in Concord. They are looking to question him regarding a crime that occurred in Martinez. If you have information that may help them identify this person please contact their non-emergency line at (925) 372-3440 – case #22-685. (Claycord.com)
  4. Troy Foulger won the 20 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. He becomes the third different winner of the season as he piloted the Bowers Motorsports Modified to the win. Foulger is a five-time champion at the speedway. (East County Today)
  5. 263 goats were tasked with chomping away at the grass and shrubs that the City of Orinda removes each year before fire season. Goats R Us is an Orinda-based family business that was in charge of the weed abatement program. The program was set to wrap up at the end of March, so if you got used to seeing the critters eating their way through Orinda, you may be missing them soon. Hopefully, they'll be back next year!
