Good day, neighbors! Jeri Karges here with your brand-new edition of the Concord Daily.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny. High: 68 Low: 47.
Here are the top stories in Concord today:
- During their meeting on Tuesday Nov 9, Contra Costa Supervisors decided to move forward with the 2021 redistricting effort by selecting Map D as the preferred alternative. It creates proposed supervisorial boundaries that will be in place for the next 10 years. Of the four maps proposed by county staff and the three complete alternative maps submitted by the public, supervisors chose Map D mainly because it presents the fewest revisions from the current districts. It splits up the cities of Concord, Antioch and Walnut Creek. It moves Alamo, Blackhawk and Tassajara Valley from the current District 3 into District 2, allowing them to join the rest of the San Ramon Valley and it shifts a portion of Concord from District 4 into District 5. - Stanford women's basketball announced the signing of 2022 4-star guard Talana Lepolo. Lepolo comes from Carondelet High School in Concord. "Talana is a dominant point guard with great vision and an outstanding basketball IQ. She can pass and score, and we look forward to her addition to the team!" Tara VanDerveer Stanford Director of Women's Basketball said. (CardinalReport.com)
- The countdown to Christmas has begun, with tree lighting festivities in Pleasant Hill, Concord and Clayton starting the season off right. The Downtown Pleasant Hill shopping center will host a Tree Lighting and Holiday Celebration in the plaza, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Nov. 17. Todos Santos Plaza in downtown Concord is the place to be for the annual Tree Lighting & Mayor's Sing-Along, 5:30-8 p.m. Dec. 3. Clayton's Tree Lighting will take place at 6 p.m. Dec. 4, weather permitting. (Pioneer Publishers)
- In the spring of 2020, due to the pandemic, an abundance of vacant commercial real estate in Walnut Creek presented fresh opportunities for relatively lower rents and entry into the market, making it a prime target for local, regional, and national brands. During the last quarter, over 50,000 square feet of commercial real estate was absorbed in downtown Walnut Creek. Local entrepreneurs have opened an eclectic mix of local business including Dumpling Hours, Sultan's Kebab, Kokolo Donburi, Bober Tea, Third Culture Bakery, Wardrobe Boutique, Yogaflow SF, School of Rock, Lulusimon Studio, and Rooted Coffee. Large, national and international brands are coming soon! (Walnut Creek Magazine)
- Today, the Antioch City Council will hold a special meeting at 5:00 pm to discuss several items requested by councilmembers. During the meeting, the council will discuss its next steps of the sesquicentennial celebration: Housing Policies and Tenant Protections, Local Purchasing Ordinance, Local Preference for Minority & Women Owned Business Enterprises, Human Rights and Racial Equity Commission and Food Insecurity and Access to Healthy and Affordable Food Options Ad Hoc Committee.
