  1. A man who was shot while attempting to help a robbery victim on New Year's Eve at the Sunvalley Shopping Center in Concord has died at a hospital, police said Thursday. The Contra Costa County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 32-year-old Calvin Crosby, a resident of Concord. Concord police said in a statement they have arrested someone in connection with the killing, but said "the case is still under investigation, and we will not release any more information at this time." Anyone with information regarding the case please contact Detective James Nielsen at (925) 603-5817 and refer to case number 21-12835. (KTVU)
  2. In Concord, the cheapest gas can be found at the Chevron station at 2001 Willow Pass Road for $4.99 per gallon — that's 61 cents more than the state average for regular gasoline, according to data from AAA and Gas Buddy. (Concord Patch)
  3. One person was hospitalized with smoke inhalation and burn injuries after a fire at a senior living facility in Pleasant Hill on Thursday afternoon, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman said. The two-alarm fire was reported at 1:15 p.m. in an unoccupied unit at the Hookston Senior Homes at 80 W. Hookston Road. Crews extinguished the fire by shortly before 2 p.m. and its cause is under investigation. (Claycord.com)
  4. A 30-year-old Concord man was arrested for armed robbery in Pleasant Hill. Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at a business in the 2100 block of Contra Costa Boulevard. Employees reported the suspect had brandished a taser while stealing approximately $800 worth of merchandise. The suspect, 30 year-old Brett Abril of Concord, was taken into custody. A taser and stolen property were recovered. (Claycord.com)
  5. Contra Costa County's Board of Supervisors is inviting the community to the free virtual event for the inaugural Asian and Pacific Islander New Year Celebration on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, during the 9 am Board of Supervisors meeting. The celebration will feature guest speakers, Susun Kim, Executive Director of the Contra Costa Family Justice Center, and Professor Kent Wong, Director of the University of California, Los Angeles Labor Center. The community can watch the event live online at www.contracosta.ca.gov/6086 or www.contracostatv.org. The celebration will also broadcast live on Contra Costa Television (CCTV) channels: Comcast Cable 27, ATT/U-Verse 99, and WAVE 32. (News 24/680)

  • The country is recruiting volunteers to fill one vacancy in the "At Large" seat on The Los Medanos Health Advisory Committee. Application forms can be obtained from the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors by calling (925) 655-2000 or by visiting the County webpage at http://www.contracosta.ca.gov/3418.
  • The Contra Costa County Superior Court is accepting applications for Civil Grand Jury Service for the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 term. The Civil Grand Jury is made up of 19 members who serve for one year, July through June, to monitor, review and report on city and county governments, special districts and school districts. Persons interested in applying may contact the Office of the Civil Grand Jury at (925) 608-2621, or visit the website at www.cc-courts.org/grandjury to receive additional information regarding service on the Civil Grand Jury and to obtain an application.
  • A new tenant will soon be taking over the old Applebee's building on Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek. Chase Bank will be moving into the building after it's remodeled. (Claycord.com)
