Here are the top stories in Concord today:
- Contra Costa Health Services on Friday began vaccinating younger children at its free public health clinics across Contra Costa County. Online appointments are open for clinics in Antioch, Concord, and Richmond. People also can call for an appointment at 1-833-829-2626. (NBC Bay Area)
- The Vanderbilt University swimming program had a lucky day recently when it got a verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Jenna Ravarino of Concord. Ravarino does her club swimming with Orinda Aquatics and most recently earned three best times at Roseville Sectionals where she finished 13th in the 50m free and 20th in the 100m free. The Carondelet High School senior said "I am honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and swimming careers at Vanderbilt University." (Swimming World Magazine)
- Contra Costa County's Board of Supervisors honors veterans and invites the community to the Annual Veterans Day Celebration held virtually on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 11:00 am. "The Board of Supervisors thanks all veterans and their families, recognizing these heroes whose sacrifice to protect our democracy and country deserve our gratitude and celebration," said Board Chair Supervisor Diane Burgis. "We are so very pleased to continue this important annual tradition." The public can watch the virtual ceremony live at www.contracosta.ca.gov or www.contracostatv.org. The celebration will also be broadcast live on Contra Costa Television (CCTV) channels: Comcast Cable 27, ATT/U-Verse Channel 99, and WAVE Channel 32. (News 24/680)
- A San Ramon resident reported being followed home and robbed by two men who displayed a handgun before making off with his iPhone and wallet Thursday. The robbery was reported in the 2000 block of Baker Way shortly after 11 a.m. Police in Alameda County later reported taking a suspect in the robbery into custody at Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton. - And from the "holy moly that's creepy!" file: The Pittsburg Police announced Thursday that officers arrested a peeping Tom wearing a Michael Myers Halloween mask. They did not identify the suspect, but said they found him on the freeway still wearing the mask. He also had a warrant and was taken to Contra Costa County Jail. It would be pretty cool to be the officer that took Michael Myers down, but can you imagine those poor people that saw him peeking through their windows? (East County Today)

- CYC Community Resource Fair: CYC is hosting a Community Resource Fair where attendees are provided the opportunity to exchange information from different non-profit agencies tabling the event. Agencies will be providing services ranging from mental health, food assistance, family support, legal services, and much more. (10:00 AM)
- Contra Costa Mineral & Gem Society Annual Show will be at the Centre Concord (10:00 AM)
- The Summer 2021's playoffs are at The Flipper Room in Concord. This location has 33 games! Eras span nearly 50 years of pinball. All games are on coin-drop. (11:00 AM)
- Turn a Pen For a Veteran at Rockler Woodworking and Hardware. Join us for this special Veteran's Day Event and Turn a Pen for $15. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Help Heal Veterans organization. In this class, you'll learn the basic fundamentals of woodturning and wooden pen turning kits. (3:30 PM)
