Happy Monday, people of Concord! Let's get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note.

Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. More than 80 people stormed and robbed a Nordstrom in Walnut Creek on Saturday night, according to a police report from the Walnut Creek Police Department. The robbery was over within minutes as thieves armed with crowbars and wearing ski masks streamed out of the Nordstrom into the dozens of cars lining the block. Three people have been arrested for robbery and weapons charges. On Friday night, just 24 hours before the Nordstrom robbery, there was a series of lootings of luxury merchandise in the Union Square shopping area of San Francisco. (USA Today via MSN)

  4. The holiday period typically sees some of the highest train ridership levels of the year, and it is expected that many customers who have been delaying travel during the pandemic will be making plans to visit family and friends so Amtrak San Joaquins is recommending you book your travel early. The Amtrak San Joaquins route travels daily between Sacramento, Stockton, Oakland, Fresno and Bakersfield, including Antioch, Martinez and Richmond in Contra Costa County, along with Thruway buses that provide connecting service to 135 destinations in California and Nevada. Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead and book their train tickets early as it is expected for many of the trains to be at maximum capacity during the most popular travel times. (Contra Costa Herald)
  5. After a nearly two-month investigation, on Sunday the City of Oakley confirmed that Dean Capelletti is no longer the Oakley Police Chief. Capelletti had been placed on administrative leave since Sept. 3 as the city investigated an incident involving another employee. No details behind the incident have been released to the public. Lt. Paul Beard will serve as the interim police chief while the city searches for its next chief. (East County Today)
