Threat At High School In Antioch Investigated

The incident came one day after police upped their presence at an Oakley school following a threatening social-media post.

ANTIOCH, CA – A social-media threat leveled Thursday against Deer Valley High School in Antioch was under investigation by police and school officials, who determined the threat had "no credibility," the Antioch Unified School District said.

The threat came one day after the Oakley Police Department increased its presence Wednesday at Freedom High School in nearby Oakley due to threats directed at the school also via social media, according to a letter to parents posted on Facebook. School officials did not provide details about the nature of threat, but said it was received via Snapchat.

Freedom Principal Kelly Manke said police had an "all hands on deck" attitude, also thanking the FBI and prosecutors for their assistance in the investigation."Going forward, we will continue enhanced police presence until the perpetrator is identified to help our school community feel safe during this unsettling time," Manke said in a statement.

"We believe this may be a copy cat of a threat sent to another local school," Deer Valley school officials said, but did not provide additional details.

The statement from the school was updated later in the afternoon and read: "There remains no credibility to the threat received, and we have been advised to continue business as usual. Antioch Police is continuing to investigate and we have received no further threats at this time. Please know that your students’ safety is our top priority at all times. Thank you for your continued support."
