Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- Today the Concord Planning Commission will discuss whether to demolish the old Claim Jumper restaurant in the Willows to make way for a new Chick-fil-A. The commission will decide whether to approve new land use and tree removal permits. "According to a staff report for Wednesday's meeting, the city and applicant held a neighborhood meeting on Jan. 6, 2022, which no neighbors attended." (Patch)
- Concord police held a DUI checkpoint on Saturday night. Three arrests were made as a result. "Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests," Concord police Officer Shaun Parsley said in a news release. "The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired." (Concord Patch)
- Concord First Partners and Local Reuse Authority (LRA) staff hosted two community meetings in December where they discussed the term sheet for the Naval Weapons Station reuse project. "The City of Concord announced that both presentation videos on the term sheet for the Naval Weapons Station Project are now available." The Concord City Council will consider the term sheet at a special meeting on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 9 a.m. (Contra Costa News)
- It was quite a spectacle on Chilpancingo Pkwy. in the median strip near the In-N-Out in Pleasant Hill on Monday! A hydrant was struck and water gushed into the sky. Check out the video! (Claycord.com)
- The San Ramon Planning Commission is looking at options for Chevron's old global headquarters. Sunset Development reacquired the property earlier this year. The developer is floating a concept that "consists of 1,250 apartments, 1,000 houses and 125,000 square feet of mixed use office and retail space, and a transit center along with a central park and other open spaces."
