Here are the top five stories today in Concord:
- Concord police are investigating a shooting that happened outside the Dave and Buster's entertainment center that sent four people to the hospital late Sunday night. A preliminary investigation indicates the shooting erupted shortly before 11 p.m. between two groups engaged in an argument inside Dave & Buster's in the 2000 block of Diamond Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds and learned that two other men with gunshot wounds drove themselves to a local hospital. The severity of the victims' injuries was not disclosed. If anyone has information, they should call the Concord Police Department confidential "tip line" at (925) 603-5836. (KTVU2 & NBC Bay Area)
- As of Sunday, February 2, Concord Costco is no longer selling diesel at its gas station. The notice states that, due to cost and volume, the retailer has decided the best use of the pump is to dispense regular gasoline. (Claycord.com)
- Local residents turned out in a show of support for the people of Ukraine Sunday, gathering in Walnut Creek's Larkey Park. The gathering, organized and hosted by The Polish School in Walnut Creek, was held partly as a way to accommodate people who had expressed a desire to visibly support the people of Ukraine as well as to brainstorm ways to funnel increasing volumes of relief supplies gathered donated on their behalf. (News 24/680)
- The environmental group Save Mount Diablo is claiming a "major" victory in its challenge to the city of Pittsburg's approval of the 1,650-unit Faria/Southwest Hills project, proposed by Seeno company Discovery Builders. A Contra Costa County Superior Court judge ruled the city's environmental impact report (EIR) was inadequate — the basis of Save Mount Diablo's legal challenge to the project, which the Pittsburg City Council approved in February 2021. Save Mount Diablo contends it's a "biologically rich site (that) supports sensitive wildlife species and rare plants and is in one of the most visible and most environmentally constrained areas of the county." Looking for a healthy alternative to that mid-week glass (or three) of wine? Our partners at Betera set out to create beverages that were sophisticated and flavorful enough to drink at cocktail hour but with zero hangover risk. (Their motto is "Drink like there's tomorrow.") Betera's drinks are designed by a Michelin-starred chef using natural botanicals — they're lightly effervescent, sippable, refreshingly bitter and at home in a stem glass or in a highball on the rocks. Betera offers three recipes — Rhubarb-Hibiscus, Elderflower-Lime and Ginger-Orange. We've tried all three and loved them equally — we recommend the mixed case as a great place to start.
Betera has extended their 15% discount on first orders to Daily readers, in appreciation for the enthusiastic response so far. Enter Patch15 at checkout and https://bit.ly/TryBetera.
