Here are the top stories in Concord today:
- Effective Sept. 22, everyone age 12 and older must show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to enter restaurants, gyms and other indoor Contra Costa businesses where there's an increased risk of spreading COVID-19. "This order is necessary now to save lives, protect our overburdened healthcare system, and slow the pandemic enough to keep our schools open," said Dr. Chris Farnitano, Contra Costa County Health Officer. (Contra Costa Health Services)
- A Concord family is searching for a man they reportedly last heard from on August 24th. 42-year-old Steve William Delaney Jr. talked with his fiancée Staci Greer at 9:15 that night, telling her that he was feeling sick and going to go to the doctor in Walnut Creek for a COVID test. On Aug. 25, Delaney's 2007 white Ford Expedition was found near Diamond Lane in Mokelumne Hill, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office confirmed. The sheriff's office has stated that they believe Delaney's disappearance to be voluntary. However, Greer believes that Delaney, who has family and grew up in Calaveras County, has fallen victim to foul play. (Calaveras Enterprise)
- More than 500 healthcare workers at Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch, Calif., and John Muir Behavioral Health Center in Concord, Calif., have voted to strike in October, according to Sept. 14 hospital and union statements. (Becker's Hospital Review)
- Authorities on Tuesday provided new details into a freeway shooting that occurred in Concord over the weekend. Officers said an unknown sedan stopped in front of a black Mercedes parked on the right shoulder, an altercation occurred and an occupant of the sedan started shooting. (KTVU San Francisco)
- Three Clayton women share reflections on life as they turn 100. These women are part of one of the fastest growing demographic groups on the planet – centenarians, people who have defied the odds to reach a venerable age. (Pioneer Publishers)
