Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Crash

The CHP says it chased a stolen car at speeds up to 100 mph through Concord.

A vehicle pursuit Tuesday night in Concord ended with a collision and the arrest of two suspects, California Highway Patrol officials said today.

Before they crashed into a BART track support pillar, officers chased the suspects, a male driver and a female passenger, as they fled at speeds of nearly 100 mph in a stolen vehicle, according to the CHP.

The CHP reports that one of its units initially spotted the vehicle, a Chrysler Sebring that was later determined to be stolen, traveling at a high rate of speed at 10:14 p.m. Tuesday on westbound state Highway 4, west of Willow Pass Road. Officers pursued the vehicle after a failed traffic stop, CHP officials said, but disengaged when the driver did a U-turn at the end of the Port Chicago Highway off-ramp and began traveling in the wrong direction on state Highway 4.

But the suspect vehicle made another abrupt U-turn upon seeing a different patrol vehicle, according to the CHP.

The suspects then transitioned to southbound state Highway 242, CHP officials said. After eventually exiting the highway, the suspect vehicle traversed several surface streets in Concord, ignoring stoplights the whole way, CHP officials said.

Reckless driving during a turn from Salvio Street onto northbound Port Chicago Highway led to a collision with a concrete support pillar for overhead BART tracks, CHP officials said. CHP officials said the driver, who they identified as 32-year-old Sean Rosevear, and the passenger, 27-year-old Sarah Bogart, tried to flee on foot after the crash.

CHP officers took Rosevear into custody; Concord police assisted with the arrest of Bogart a short time later, authorities said.

Rosevear, who CHP officials said suffered minor head and hand lacerations, was allegedly found to be in the possession of a large amount of what appeared to be methamphetamines.

Both suspects received medical clearance and were booked into Martinez Detention Facility.
