🌱Walk, Bike or Roll to Class, Concord + Wet Bay Area Year!

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Morning, neighbors! It's Jeri Karges, your host of the Daily. Let's get this Thursday started off right with a quick review of everything you need to know about what's happening in town these days, including updates on...

  • Rumors about a threat of a shooting at Ygnacio Valley High School prompted a police presence Tuesday at the school.
  • The Contra Costa Grand Jury is seeking additional jurors for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2022-2023.
  • Watch the the Madd Hatter Players perform "The Night of the Living Dead" at the Antioch Historical Society Museum.

But first, today's weather:

Warm with plenty of sun. High: 87 Low: 56.

Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Rumors about a threat of a shooting at Ygnacio Valley High School prompted a police presence Tuesday at the school. Concord police confirmed, "There was never any credible threat. Regardless we still went down there and had officers there all day."(Concord Patch)
  2. The Concord Police Department encourages parents and students to join their classmates and walk, bike or roll to class Wednesday, Oct. 12. "Walking to school is a great way to exercise on a daily basis and feel comfortable getting to and from school safely," Concord Police Lt. Gregory Rodriguez said. Concord Police ask "drivers to be extra careful and anticipate more foot and bike traffic on Oct 12." (Concord Patch)
  3. A robbery and attempted murder unfolded at the Smart and Final at 2638 Sommersville Road in Antioch on Tuesday. Officers were called to the scene, and when they arrived they found a 58-year-old male victim with a stab wound to the chest. The suspect, identified as 29- year-old Hakeem Thomas, was pursued by officers and eventually surrendered. Anyone with information is asked to call the Antioch Police Department non-emergency line at (925)778-2441. You may also text-a-tip to 274637 (CRIMES) using the key word ANTIOCH. (East County Today)
  4. Are you interested in the civil processes for Contra Costa County? The Contra Costa Grand Jury is seeking additional jurors for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2022-2023. Persons interested in applying may contact the Office of the Civil Grand Jury at (925) 608-2621, or visit the website www.cc-courts.org/grandjury to receive additional information and to obtain an application. Application deadline is Monday, October 31, 2022. (East County Today)
  5. Here's some good news: the Bay Area had close-to-normal precipitation over the last year! We're at about 82% of a normal year, measured from Oct. 1, 2021, to Sept. 30, 2022. Remember the "atmospheric river" deluge last October? You can thank that little drenching for our near-normal rain performance. But don't ride this high for too long. According to Claycord.com, "that said, California is still in the midst of its driest period ever recorded" and the expectation is of a dry year upcoming, as well. "With another La Niña winter likely on the horizon, according to state water officials, bringing with it more dry conditions, the state is likely to see drought conditions continue for months and years to come." We still have to do our part to conserve, as does the rest of the state. (Claycord.com)
