9 Hammer-Wielding Robbers Sought In East Bay Jewelry Heist

The robbers used hammers in the smash-and-grab heist at Iceberg Diamonds inside the Sunvalley Mall, police said.

CONCORD, CA — Nine hammer-wielding thieves are sought in a smash-and-grab robbery at a Concord jewelry store, according to police.

The brazen heist happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday when the group of nine stormed into Iceberg Diamonds jewelry store inside the Sunvalley Mall, armed with hammers.

They began smashing the glass display cases and stealing jewels, police said.

Employees who tried to intervene were kept back by the hammer-wielding criminals.

The robbers were gone before police got there.

Some customers inside the mall reported hearing what they thought were gunshots but police said no shots were fired; what the customers heard was the sound of hammers breaking glass.

Detectives with the Concord Police Department are investigating the robbery and asked anyone with information to contact Detective Christine Corey with CPD’s Financial Crimes Unit at 925-603-5828 and reference case no. 21-11268.
