Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- The California Highway Patrol said a 43-year-old Concord man was killed Saturday night when he lost control of his motorcycle on the Magazine Street on-ramp at eastbound Interstate Highway 80 in Vallejo. Officer Jason Tyhurst said the rider was speeding when he lost control. The CHP is still investigating the incident and said it had not ruled out drugs or alcohol as a contributing factor. The victim had not been identified by press time. (CBS San Francisco)
- A stabbing has been reported on Bennet Way in Concord, which is in the area of E. Olivera Road and Esperanza Drive. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. According to the latest known information, it looks like the victim is in critical condition. (Concord News Journal)
- Walnut Creek Police Department officers were alerted via the Automated License Plate Reading (ALPR) system, that a stolen vehicle had just entered their jurisdiction on Thursday night. Officers quickly located the vehicle parked along the southern fence-line of the Ross store parking lot adjacent to a canal. When the suspect realized they had been found they accelerated toward the canal striking a fence. In an effort to stop the suspect vehicle from pushing through the fence (and into the water below), or reversing back into officers, an officer fired a "Less-Lethal" Kinetic Energy Round (also known as a "bean bag" round) at the window of the vehicle. The suspects then began to comply with officers. Both the driver and the female passenger were detained and arrested on various charges and booked at The Martinez Detention Facility. Check out the dramatic picture. (Claycord.com)
- "Looking ahead to the year to come, we are excited to see the culmination of years of work as we complete construction of the new Pleasant Hill Library," Pleasant Hill mayor Michael G Harris said in a statement. "The city has been working on this $24 million project since 2017, and we will finally see it come to life later this year. The new building is on five acres donated by Contra Costa County and was made possible through Measure K funding. Watch for announcements about a grand opening this spring" the statement goes on to read. (Pioneer Publishers)
- On Saturday, the Antioch Police Department announced the arrest of Giovanni Garcia, 21, after an officer recovered an AR style pistol and another firearm from his vehicle. According to police, one of their officers observed a vehicle that was in violation of the California Vehicle Code in numerous ways and made a traffic enforcement stop to speak with the driver. After a search, the officer located the multiple firearms and then placed Garcia under arrested. (East County Today)
