- Richard Clayton, the husband of Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis, died by suicide Saturday morning, the supervisor said. "Like many of us, Richard's mental health was severely impacted by the pandemic. I would ask anyone who is suffering from a mental health crisis to reach out for help, and I'm respectfully requesting that you respect my privacy and the privacy of Richard's family at this difficult time," Burgis said in a statement. - One person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on eastbound Highway 24 near St. Stephens Drive early Saturday. The Orinda crash was reported at about 1:33 a.m. An unoccupied Dodge Challenger was parked on the right shoulder of eastbound SR-24 and a Toyota Avalon, driven by an unrestrained adult male, was traveling eastbound on SR-24 when for reasons unknown the driver allowed his vehicle to leave the roadway onto the shoulder. The Toyota collided with the rear of the parked Dodge. The Toyota's driver was pronounced deceased on scene. (News 24/680)
- The Contra Costa Office of the District Attorney has filed misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges against Phyllis Meehan in the death of Stanley Middle School crossing guard, Ashley Steven Dias. September 8, 2021, Phyllis Meehan was picking her grandson up from the Lafayette middle school when she collided with a vehicle and proceeded to accelerate into a crosswalk. Witnesses observed Mr. Dias push a student out of the path of the GMC Yukon before the crossing guard was fatally struck by the driver. (News 24/680)
- At the town's 40th annual Community Service Awards on Tuesday, Danville councilmembers appointed Vice Mayor Newell Arnerich as the town's new mayor for the upcoming year. In Danville, the mayor is chosen among the councilmembers to serve a one-year term starting on the first Tuesday in December. Arnerich, who served as vice mayor for the past year, was nominated as the next mayor by Councilmember Robert Storer, and elected by the Town Council in a unanimous vote, with no other nominees. - During its meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, the Antioch City Council voted to conditionally hire Cornelius "Con" Johnson as interim city manager. "This is a conditional appointment based on a successful background check," said Administrative Services Director Nickie Mastay. "Upon hiring of the interim city manager, the council will begin the process for recruiting a city manager." The motion to appoint Cornelius Johnson with a proposed start date, following a successful background check passed on a 3-2 motion with Barbanica and Ogorchock voting no. (Antioch Herald)

- A winter storm warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Greater Lake Tahoe area as Sunday marks the start of a five-day storm series in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service. Monday snowfall is predicted to be heavy continuing into Tuesday. The Weather Service is advising motorists to avoid travel if possible and be prepared to be stranded for hours. Those who must travel are advised to carry an emergency kit with extra food, water and clothing.
- Grant funding applications are open for public agencies and private businesses to mitigate the costs of buying and installing public electronic vehicle charging stations. Funds can go to any facilities in workspaces, transit parking lots, multi-unit residences and along major roadways. The Air District will specifically seek out projects in multi-unit residential facilities like affordable and below market-rate housing complexes to reach communities with few electronic vehicle resources. The application period will be open until March 1, 2022.
