White Pony Express Distributes 4,500 Gallons Of Milk To Needy

A semi-trailer with twenty-four pallets of milk is sent to help feed those in need.

The mission of White Pony Express is to eliminate hunger and poverty by delivering the abundance all around us to those in need – with LOVE. They serve 120,000 people each year, delivering 25 million pounds of fresh food and 1.5 million items of clothing and other supplies. Their food rescue program is one of the largest in Northern California.

White Pony Express has just moved from Pleasant Hill to a new warehouse on Bates Avenue in Concord giving more parking, much better facilities for volunteers sorting the rescued food and five times the refrigeration space. The facilities make it possible for more volunteers to provide service, to volunteer, go to their website: www.WhitePonyExpress.org.

The recent donation of milk was provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from their Bishops Storehouse in Salt Lake City. Twenty four pallets of milk was shipped in a refrigerated semi-trailer, over 4,500 gallons which White Pony Express facilitated the distribution to other food pantries, such as Bay Area Rescue Mission in Richmond, Monument Crisis Center in Concord, Emeryville Citizens Assistance Program and SupportLives which is based in Oakland with a network of distribution points at Islamic centers throughout the Bay Area. All these agencies were extremely grateful for this donation of fresh milk, which is not always readily available.

The truck is part of the Surplus Food program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which has their own farms, canneries, dairies, and other processing plants. When there is surplus in their storage warehouses, it is shared with food pantries and to disaster areas. A recent grant from the church also helped White Pony Express in obtaining the increased refrigeration. Representatives of the church were pleased that funding and food was available to support a wonderful organization such as White Pony Express, which does so much to support those in need in Contra Costa County.
