🌱White Pony Express Needs You! + Masks on BART Again

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Hey, friends. It's Wednesday in Concord and I'm back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in our community today. Hope you all have a great day. Let's do this...

First, today's weather:

Clouds giving way to some sun. High: 86 Low: 57.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top five stories in Concord today:

  1. Become a first responder for... food..? Yep! You're needed to help rescue the food that businesses, farmers markets and wholesalers throw out and repurpose it for those with food insecurity. That's a true hero! "White Pony Express is expanding to meet the growing need for healthy food in our communities," the organization said in a news release. "Hunger is on the rise due to inflation and supply chain disruptions and fresh, nutritious food is out of reach for many of our neighbors." They need volunteer drivers for their expansion. Can you help? (Concord Patch)
  2. PG&E is hosting a Safety Town Hall for Contra Costa County residents on Thursday, July 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. to share its wildfire prevention plans for 2022 and listen to customer feedback. You'll learn about PG&E's wildfire prevention program as well as what resources are available to you in the event of a wildfire safety outage. For the full webinar events schedule, additional information on how to join, recordings and presentation materials from past events, and to learn more about PG&E's Community Wildfire Safety Program, visit pge.com/wildfiresafety. (Claycord.com)
  3. The mask mandate on BART expired on July 18, but on Thursday the BART Board of Directors is expected to vote to require face masks (fully covering nose and mouth) while inside the paid area of BART until October 1. So, dig those old masks out of the laundry and get them washed and ready to go again. (Claycord.com)
  4. Come out and donate to the backpack drive at Salvio Pacheco Square, 2151 Salvio Street in Concord this Friday, July 29. The event is put on by NBC Bay Area, Telemundo 48, along with help from Visit Concord. You can bring a backpack to donate, or pay for backpacks and supplies at the event. See you there! (Pioneer Publishers)
  5. Did you smell smoke in Antioch on Tuesday? That's because a pair of vegetation fires had the Antioch Fire Department jumping. The first fire broke out at 10:31 am in the area of SR-160 and Highway 4 Connector where crews located a 1/4 acre vegetation fire which was blowing smoke across the freeway. A second fire broke out at 10:54 a.m. when firefighters observed smoke in the area of 2200 block of E 18th. Both fires were contained before noon, though firefighters remained on the scenes to mop up. (East County Today)
