🌱 Wild Ride + Another Smash-And-Grab + Carondelet Cougars B-Ball

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Happy Tuesday, Concord! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening locallytoday.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 67 Low: 44.

Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Local school districts in Concord need substitute teachers, and anyone with at least a bachelor's degree may apply. More than 13,500 teachers retired across California at the end of last year, setting up a shortage of full-time and substitute educators. "Being a substitute teacher is a great opportunity for retirees, recent college graduates, or those looking for flexible, part-time work," said Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools Lynn Mackey. (Concord Patch)
  2. A 13-year-old Concord boy led police on a wild chase early Sunday morning in a stolen car that ended when the carjacking suspect lost control of the vehicle in Oakley and crashed into a decorative boulder in front of Starbucks. Officers arrested the 13-year-old running from the vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Antioch police at 925-779-6874 or text the key word ANTIOCH to 274637 (CRIMES). I have a feeling this kid is going to end up on Santa's naughty list this year. (NBC Bay Area)
  3. The Carondelet Cougars have two standout senior guards newly signed to Division I colleges and one of the region's most dynamic coaches, setting them up for a fantastic season. Point guard Talana Lepolo will be going to defending NCAA National Champion Stanford. Shooting guard Nya Epps is headed to UC Davis, winner of the last five Big West Conference championships. Running the show is Kelly Sopak, who came over to the Cougars in September 2020 after an exceptional run at Miramonte-Orinda. Look to this team to give us some astonishing high school basketball this season! (Claycord.com)
  4. Police in Moraga and Orinda teamed up to halt a car which reportedly fled from officers along Moraga Way Sunday night. Officers eventually caught up to the speeding vehicle after it crashed on the Orinda offramp at approximately 8:35 p.m. Two people were detained. (News 24/680)
  5. On November 27, at approximately 8:36 pm, Antioch Police Officers responded to Walgreens, located at 3416 Deer Valley Road on a report of four subjects looting the store in yet another smash-and-grab in the area. The subjects used hammers to smash open the locked plexiglass cases and stole approximately $2,400 of products from the cosmetics section. No suspects were apprehended and there were no injuries reported by Walgreens staff. Anyone with information is asked to call the Antioch Police Department non-emergency line at (925)778-2441. You may also text-a-tip to 274637 (CRIMES) using the key word ANTIOCH. (East County Today)
