The Low Tide Ride and Stride event is the premier combination of a competitive, family friendly event and fundraiser for Coronado and the Coronado Rotary Club. The Low Tide Ride and Stride is a unique experience because, unlike most events, it is geared for everyone from the amateur enthusiast to the serious competitor. The Low Tide Ride and Stride event presents a challenging exercise with awe-inspiring scenery on 8.2 miles of the longest all-beach course on the Pacific Coast. We invite bicyclists (single and tandem), runners, and walkers to participate. It is the only time of the year that the Navy opens the entire length of the beach between Imperial Beach and Coronado. The event takes place at low tide with the Coronado Islands as your backdrop. With the hard packed sand at the shore line for the bicycles and loose sand up the beach for those who really want a workout this event offers as much challenge as you desire. Bicycles are allowed on the beach for one of the few times just for this event. So whether you are a professional marathoner or a casual exerciser this is certain to please. Best of all, most of the money raised goes directly toward helping our wounded warriors through the C5 rehabilitation facility at Naval Medical Center San Diego and the Warrior Foundation. This is a special event that benefits special people. Last year, Low Tide Ride and Stride raised over $36,000. According to Howard Somers, the event co-chair, "It is an honor and a privilege to work on this event. Everyone involved with this project has only one goal in mind, to help those wounded sailors, soldiers and Marines who have given so much."
