Group Receives $900,000 to Assist Low-Income Veterans
Federal contract is part of $15.7 million in money issued statewide for the purpose.

A nonprofit that supports the disabled won a contract renewal worth nearly $900,000 to help around 300 veterans in the region, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has announced.
Community Catalysts of California, in Kearny Mesa, helps veterans:
- Find suitable housing
- Determine eligibility for benefits and resources
- Be placed in jobs or proper educational setting.
The grant was part of $15.7 million given to similar agencies throughout California, and about $100 million nationally. The VA program is in its second year.

“We are committed to ending veteran homelessness in America,” said U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki. “These grants will help the USDVA and community organizations reach out and prevent at-risk veterans from losing their homes.”
The funds are designed to help place veterans and their families into permanent housing. They must have low incomes to qualify for assistance.

Around 22,000 former servicemen and women were helped in the program's initial year.
