The Longest Night service at Christ Episcopal Church

We sing, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” but for many people the Christmas season is anything but. The Christmas season is an extraordinarily difficult time for some of us. We may look up and realize that our lives during this season are marked more by broken hearts and shattered spirits than by holiday joy.

The Longest Night Service, known in some places as a Blue Christmas Service, is for all who are sad, lonely, hurting, or suffering from loss of any kind. In this service we will offer our pain to God and seek comfort in the Christmas message with opportunities to light a memorial candle and participate in Holy Communion. With simple hymns, prayers, readings and scripture, participants are invited to come together, be where they are, and feel what they feel, knowing that in the midst of their struggles, they are not alone. All are welcome.
