San Diego Players Named to ITF Senior World Team Championships Squads
Nideffer and Nichols will play against teams from 29 other countries in France, June 8-13.
The USTA has announced that Ros Nideffer of San Diego is among the 24 players who will represent the United States at the ITF Seniors World Team Championships, the senior equivalent of tennis’ Davis Cup and Fed Cup competitions. The 24 American athletes will be competing against players from 29 other countries.
In addition, San Diego County is represented in the completion by Carolyn Nichols of Rancho Santa Fe. Nichols will compete for the Women’s 60s Alice Marble Cup team.
Nideffer will compete on the Women’s 50 and over Bueno Cup team. A former two-time Grand Slam doubles winner, Nideffer won the French Open in both 1981 and 1983. When Nideffer is not representing the United States in foreign competitions, she is an active USTA League player in the Adult 18 & Over 5.0+ division. USTA League is the country’s largest recreational tennis league, helping players nationwide enjoy the thrill of competition while making friends, improving skills and staying active. USTA League offers several league programs throughout the year that vary by gender, age, and skill level divisions. Division formats also vary by offering singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
