SOROPTIMIST LECTURE TO HONOR VETERANS
To honor veterans, Soroptimist International of Coronado invites the public to a special event November 13, 2014 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church , 700 D Avenue, Coronado at 7:30 AM. The Coronado High School NJROTC color guard will start the program followed by a short presentation by Capt. Kenneth Ireland about their popular CHS program that exposes students to lessons in leadership and career opportunities in the armed forces. A female cadet will share her personal experience in the NJROTC.
The keynote speaker, Rick Ochocki, is the Development Manager of Veteran’s Village of San Diego, (VVSD). VVSD, a nationally recognized nonprofit, non-governmental organization serving veterans since 1981, is dedicated to their promise to “Leave No One Behind.” Their intensive treatment programs are designed to help veterans lead independent, self-sustaining, meaningful lives. As the Development Manager, Mr. Ochocki leads the fundraising and external communications team at VVSD. His presentation will describe the multi-faceted program that offers resources and hope to veterans. He will specifically address the alarming issue of homeless female veterans in San Diego. He will describe the VVSD’s new residential wing for homeless women with substance abuse issues, and discuss the inpatient, outpatient and residential programs.
